Traditions and Tales

Description:
This year is devoted to the life passage rituals, sacraments and traditions of our two religions. It also includes some of the popular stories that are passed down from one generation to another. These all help form the spiritual and cultural glue that binds us together as Catholics and Jews. These are common, human moments, celebrated and recognized in both unique yet similar ways. However, the theme of this year is that these traditions and sacraments are really designed to help us look for “something more,” to move beyond the secular and into the sacred. It culminates in a Family School tradition – the performance of a play for the entire school, either an original work or an adaptation, featuring students and directed by parents.

Sample Classes:
Traditions: In Our Families and Our Cultures, Birth Ceremonies, Communion and Sabbath Meal, Reconciliation and T’shuvah, Coming of Age: Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation, Anointing the Sick, Burying Our Dead, Lives of the Saints, Jewish Folklore, Jewish Humor, Rehearsals and Performance of 5th Grade Play.
