6th Grade
One Root, Two Branches:
How Christianity Grew From Judaism
Description:
As Christians, we want to teach our children lessons about the life of Jesus, his profound teachings, and the way he showed that God can become human in the world. Yet as Jews, how can we be true to our faith and teach our children about this man millions of others have accepted as the Son of God and their Savior? Moreover, how can we teach this material and not sound like the evangelical group “Jews for Jesus?” We answer these questions with a very Jewish approach, focused on the importance of learning history, a foundation of any good Jewish education. As many of our sister and brother Catholics have discovered, understanding the Jewishness of Jesus is key to a much deeper understanding of his wisdom and ministry – an understanding that we have experienced through our marriages with Jewish partners.
Sample Classes:
The Ancient Greeks and Romans, Jews Around the Time of Jesus, The Jewish Jesus, The Teachings of
Jesus, Paul’s Journeys, The Destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, People of the Diaspora & People
of the Book, Midrashim and the Gospels, Early Christianity.
