“Instead of distant schoolteachers whom you know nothing about,
your teachers are all people you know, many times people who are friends
of your parents and who may have been over to your house in the past.”
– Tim, Class of 2002

All classes in 1st through 7th grades are taught by parents, on a rotating basis. At the beginning of the year, each family signs up to teach 2 or 3 classes, usually in the classrooms of their children. Lesson plans and materials are provided for classes by parents who have previously taught them. Parents are encouraged to add their own creative style to teaching and build upon the success of the class materials provided from prior years.

Many parents (even those who have never had experience teaching) find that teaching their children’s classes is one of the most rewarding aspects of the school. Children see that their parents’ active involvement makes it clear that the entire family, through actions – not just words – embraces the value of religion. As for what it means to be an interfaith family, children see their parents discovering right along with them.
